Machine to Machine (M2M)
Virtus IT’s core technology platform, the Virtus CEP, is able to read, correlate and process vast amounts of data from many different Machine sources and from many different types Machine in near real time.
We can combine the monitoring of many machine devices (for example all of the energy management devices in a commercial building or all of the monitoring devices in a car) and present a total picture of what is going on with say energy management across an entire building on a minute by minute basis (or any other desired time interval).
While we can process and simply display information coming from numerous devices, a significant value of Virtus CEP for M2M solutions is the CEP’s Rules Engine. Systems and solutions providers can, through a simple to use web based user interface, define processing rules for any combination of data items that are sent to CEP by any Machine. These rules are applied in real time as data is received by CEP and the appropriate action (as defined by those rules) can then be executed.
As important, when data should be received from a machine but has not been then the CEP will generate an alert to indicate that all is not well with a given
The actions that can be executed by the CEP can be undertaken by either the CEP system itself or by customers’ own north bound systems which are supplied with the actionable results from our CEP engine. Where actions are taken by the CEP system, these can be as simple as texts or email alerts or they can be code scripts that are executed the CEP.
The innovation behind our CEP means that as the number of Machines to be monitored grows, all that is required by CEP is the addition of a new server. The CEP Datagrid allows for the addition of thousands of servers without the need to modify the CEP system or the associated rules as the rules are applied across the entire Datagrid regardless of how large or small that is.
The cheapest and simplest server that we could find was tested to manage 18 million Events per hour with each being tested against 8 rules from the Rules Engine in real time. With our CEP Datagrid technology, the addition of a second such server will simply double that figure to 36 million, a third server will triple the capacity and so on. Also faster servers will significantly improve the 18 million Events per Server figure.
This means that an investment in CEP to manage the interface between your business activities, your partners/supply chain and your M2M devices is future proofed, being able to grow as you need it and having the flexibility to integrate with different north bound systems and with different M2M devices as required.
Of course CEP offers much more. The Knowledge Base provides information to Customer Services team on what to do when different issues are detected (e.g. a device failure), and our Business Intelligence module provides powerful data mining and data analytics to allow you to maximise the business and customer value that you can generate from the data that you collect.
We are vendor agnostic and hence the CEP can work with any M2M solution that can send data. However it is worth pointing out that one of our spoke providers in our M2M Solutions Area is Cinterion who have many M2M devices for different markets coupled with a great deal of experience in the M2M area. Hence we can provide a “one stop shop” for those wishing to embark on providing M2M based services
